Essential Self Care: Why Prioritizing Yourself Matters
Hey Clinicians, do you mindfully think about your needs when you wake up? Or are you doing everything but taking care of you? I’m guessing that on most days, your mind is not on your self care, but what you need to do for others.
If you’re not taking time to care for your needs, we know that this will only add to your burnout! Scrolling through social media posts, is not what I’m talking about. It’s important to model our good self care practices to our clients. After all, we want our client to learn how to take care of themselves.
Here’s 3 quick tips on starting your day mindfully:
So instead of running through your day, try slowing down your pace. When we slow down, it helps us bring down our anxiety and have better focus.
Set your day with an intention. So if your intention is to stay calm and you’re feeling frazzled, then tether yourself back to staying calm.
Do 15 minutes of meditation or yoga every morning. This can help you stay grounded in your body, so whatever happens in your sessions, you can response from a non-reactive and calm place.
Just remember to be mindful as you build a routine, which will support you and your needs. Make sure to set time aside for yourself daily. So instead of self sacrificing for everyone else in your life, try scheduling in times throughout your day for some self care.
What would it be like to prioritize yourself? And what would you like your self care routine to look like? Taking care of our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing is essential! We need to keep going strong to prevent burnout. This is why I work with Clinicians, to prevent burnout so you can do the work you love!
